While I'm on the record as thinking that the speeches on the first day of the convention were perfect, an exercise in preemptively dismissing the attacks of the Republican Convention, a way of making sure that we have a positive reason to vote for Obama in addition to the negative reasons to vote against McCain, I know that some people are worried.
We could have attacked more. We only have 4 days and one of them was "wasted." The Republicans wouldn't be nearly that dumb; they'd maximize all four of their days in order to have constant attacks on Democrats and change the discussion.
Hearing Carville say that made me curious. What do the Republicans have planned for their first convention day? If you don't know, meet me under the fold.
It's an odd day for an opening of a national convention. Are people going to really be paying attention on Labor Day? Talk about a wasted day. Friends and families will be having one last chance to celebrate summer and will be barbecuing and drinking instead of watching television. What could inspire such an decision?
Well that may have something to do with their lineup for that day:
Monday, September 1
- Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut
- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney
- First Lady Laura Bush
- President of the United States George Walker Bush
We got to see Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama make powerful cases for Obama, being both touching and powerful. The Republicans get Dick Cheney and Dubya and are hoping that people are too busy to watch. Our first day suddenly looks a lot better, doesn't it?
