Every time I turn on the TV, the Republicans are offering advice to Democrats about how make all our lives better. There isn’t a move that Democrats have made this week that we didn’t have some dweeb on Larry King Live or some other show telling us how to make it better.
Democrats have been entirely too polite in their response. Maybe they don’t know what to say. No problem. Just return the favor by providing them some kindly advice about how Republicans can win the presidency. Ask them, "Is John McCain ready to turn his back on Republican ideology?"
Every failure of the Bush Administration comes straight out of Republican ideology. Foreign policy disasters? Strait out of going it alone on the world stage. Economy in tatters? Strait out of failures of oversight and their determined policy of disabling or ignoring regulation. Infrastructure falling down? Strait out of Reagan’s belief that government is the problem. Fiscal mismanagement? Straight out of cutting taxes combined with senseless spending sprees. Disastrous foreign entanglements and wars? Strait out of talking tough without being smart enough.
Is John McCain ready to turn his back on this ideology?
When Republicans offer their advice to Democrats on how we should run our campaigns, I think we should turn to them and offer this advice: If McCain isn’t willing to turn his back on the ideology that’s created these enormous problems, then the best thing for the Republican Party to do is to dump him and nominate someone else next week. Because he can’t run the country by continuing on this course without creating his own series of disasters.
Democrats appearing on the box: Get with the program! Look them right in the eye and ask them, "Is John McCain ready to turn his back on the ideology that’s gotten us in so much trouble? Is he ready to get the Republican Party out of the hole it’s dug for itself?"
Then watch ’em squirm.
