Let's see what history has to tell us about the importance of experience for predicting a successful presidency.
You can’t tell me you really expect the American people to elect a one-term Congressman from Illinois.
We all know the guy can give a barn-burner of a speech, but he’s doesn’t have the experience to be commander-in-chief. What’s he got? A law degree. A few years in the state legislature. High-sounding words. He may pick up a few states in the West, but he might as well not be on the ballot in the South. The racists are going to have a field day, and other side’s attack machine is going to play that race card big time.
His opponent is clearly more qualified to be President. We’re talking about a highly respected Senator with five, count ‘em, five terms in Congress. He knows how to work both sides of the aisle and brings people together to get things done. And he isn’t afraid to take on his own party. That’s why people admire him so much. He’s a maverick, and he has undeniable credentials to lead this country through the perils we face us as a nation. This is no time for a risky, untried leader.
So why are you even thinking about voting for that skinny guy with big ears? Stephen Douglas is clearly a better choice than Abraham Lincoln.
