We might not be able to count on help in this election from our friends north of the border--they might be about to have an election of their own.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper made an argument Tuesday for pre-empting his own fixed-election law and dissolving Parliament, all but formally declaring he will call a snap election next week.
He said that the fixed election law only applies to majority governments. The next election is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2009, according to the law his government passed.
If this report is true, Harper plans to meet with Governor-General Michaelle Jean sometime next week to formally ask for a parliamentary dissolution.
Our Canadian friends might be able to shed more light on this, but from my perspective it's really difficult to make a prediction either way. YOu think our polling is all over the place? You ain't seen nothing yet.
I personally hope that Canada comes to its senses and sends Harper back to the opposition benches--wouldn't make much sense for us to be tossing out our conservatives while Canada keeps theirs.
