From what I've read before I never felt that Libby Dole was really in touch with the world around her. Well, now it defiantly looks like she's starting to come unhinged by her challenger Kay Hagan.
So what has Libby's panties in a bind now? On September 15th, Kay Hagan will travel to Boston to attend a fundraiser held by Secular Coalition of America.
"Kay Hagan is trying to run a campaign in North Carolina that casts her as a moderate but the money that's paying for it is coming from the left-wing fringe of political thought," said Dole Campaign Communications Director Dan McLagan. "You can tell a lot about a person by their friends and these are friends most North Carolinians would not be comfortable having over for dinner."
(emphasis added)
Guess what Libby, you've probably had a dozen atheists, secularists or humanists over for dinner and never knew it. I even bet none of them ate any babies or puppies at your table either. Tell me exactly how trying to find common cause with all people of your state is not being moderate. Oh I see, unless you were brainwashed at birth and ascribe all of life to an imaginary sky daddy, your not American. Your "left-wing fringe of political thought" group values a concept that the Republican party has a very difficult time grasping. It's called Reality. Is it any surprise that most atheists are Democrats? Although in recent months its become increasingly clear from the Dems that we are being marginalized in their attempt to swing over some of the Evangelical group.
"Kay Hagan does not represent the values of this state; she is a Trojan Horse for a long list of wacky left-wing outside groups bent on policies that would horrify most North Carolinians if they knew about it," McLagan said. "This latest revelation of support from anti-religion activists will not sit well with the 90% of state residents who identify with a specific religious faith."
(emphasis added)
The Secular Coalition of America is not anti-religion. They simply are a group of smaller organizations that have banded together in an effort to make sure this segment of the population has a voice also. Guess what Libby, non-religious and unaffiliated is one of the fastest growing populations in the country. More and more people are sloughing off the religious mindset. I don't mind anyone who has religion in your life. If you need that crutch that's fine, that's your right. But to think that people who don't need religion, and generally are happier without it, are some how deficient is plainly insulting.
I am not anti-religion, I am anti-idiot. Unfortunately religion tends to attract the most idiots and breeds their own idiots together. So in the name of rationalism, secularism, and atheism I an donating $50 to Kay Hagan's campaign fund. Who's with me?
