What do you call a deposition, an unwed pregnant teen, a bridge to nowhere, a 527 for Ted Stevens, the Alaska Independence Party and the first dude's DWI? McCain and Rove's Imperfect Storm: Hurricane Palin.
This is not what McCain and Rove planned to divert attention from Obama's masterpiece acceptance speech. They had hoped Palin would change the subject and energize the GOP. She changed the subject all right! Her skeletons are running out of the closet.
They also hoped that Hurricane Gustuv would help redeem the GOP. McCain had planned on doing his acceptance speech from Mississippi. But Obama outsmarted him by staying away so that he would not interfere with relief efforts.
Now McCain and Rove must deal with rescuing the GOP from the aftermath of Hurricane Palin.
Here are the questions that need to be asked of McCain and Palin:
- Was Palin a member of the Alaska Independence Party, an organization whose objective was to break off from the lower 48 states? If so, what are her views today?
- Are there emails, audios and videos of her staff pressuring the public safety commissioner into firing her former brother in law? If so, how does this situation square with her reformer and anti-corruption posture.
- Was Palin a director of a 527 organization tied to Ted Stevens?
- Did Palin support the bridge to no where before she claimed last Friday that she told Congress no thanks?
5.)When did she turn over her financial records and other documents as part of the McCain vetting process?
6.)McCain said on Fox News that he has been watching Palin for "many, many years." How is this possible when he first met her in February and she's only been governor for 20 months? Did he start watching her when she was a non-name mayor?
7)Palin claims on CNBC that she doesn't know what the VP does and wonders if the job will be fruitful for Alaska and as productive as her job as governor. Does she understand the role of the VP now?
The real victims of Hurricane Palin are the American people and Palin's oldest daughter who now has to live with a scarlet letter brought on by the national announcement because of her mother's blind ambition. Now family values, reformer AND experience talking points.
Nothing could have prepared Palin and her family for the national spotlight. The microscope is simply too intense.
Now McCain and Rove must create an exit strategy for Palin to gracefully go back to Alaska and tend to her family and her state. Thanks to sloppy vetting, her 15 minutes in the national spotlight may create a lifetime of pain for her family and her reputation.
