What's a billion dollars between friends? Vice President Cheney is traveling to Georgia today to unveil a $1 billion aid package to help rebuild the former Soviet Republic. Here's the story, and below the fold a quick summary of how this hurts America.

So you and I and all the other taxpayers are going to pay to rebuild Georgia. Here's a quick recap of what happened:
- President Bush, VP Cheney, Senator McCain and others decided to manufacture evidence and lead us into war with Iraq.
- Quickly the world learned that the Iraq War was a waste of time, money, and lives.
- We wanted more allies to fight with us there. Georgia wanted weapons and military training. A match made in heaven!
- Georgia gets arms and training from U.S. forces, makes a cameo appearance in Iraq, takes shiny new weapons home to Georgia.
- Armed with shiny new weapons they decide to invade South Ossetia, knowing full well that this will incur the wrath of Russia, a country with a lot more soldiers, and a lot more shiny new weapons.
- Georgia invades. In a matter of days they get their asses handed to them by Russia.
- Ceasefire. Time to rebuild. Who gets the bill? You do.
So much for all of the vaunted foreign policy experience of Dick Cheney and John McCain. Oh and don't forget, there are lobbyists working for the McCain campaign who have taken money from Georgia.
And one more thing, and this hardly is worth mentioning, but by helping Georgia we are pissing off the Russians something fierce. They are already torqued off at us for trying to put a missile shield in Poland. Why do the Republicans who are paid to keep us safe keep provoking Russia? Do they think we are prepared to fight Russia, with most of our troops tied up in Afghanistan and Iraq? Are they insane?
