My friend lives just over the line in Charlotte, NC. To be certain his votes in 2000 and 2004 had no impact, but this time the race is close in the Tar Heel state--we can turn it blue!
He was committed to Kucinich, but since Dennis dropped out he has no interest in supporting any Democrat running for president. He's concerned about Obama's refusal to cancel the contract with Blackwater, the presence of advisors like Warren Christopher and Madeline Albright, Obama's support of the death penalty, and of course the watered-down health care plan.
Yeah, he gets the "lesser of two evils" thing, but he's an old-time leftist who still believes in the ideals of the 60s. Here's the rub: WE CAN WIN NORTH CAROLINA. To do it we need every damn vote.
He's not the only one, but if I can get him--grudgingly--to vote Obama I'll bet I can turn some more, too. I plan on starting with the simple notion that a vote for anybody but Obama is a vote for McCain-Bush...and endless war. I think I'll add in some Supreme Court math as well.
Other ideas? Is there a Nader voter near you? We need everybody.
