And that someone is most probably Chuck Schumer, whose DSCC recently decided to funnel what some are rumoring to be upwards of 8 million dollars into the NC Senate race, most of it in the form of a series of brutal anti-Elizabeth Dole TV spots. The effect has been immediate, dramatic and far-reaching. From an initial poll position at nearly ten points behind the incumbent "superstar" Republican, Hagan has now pulled ahead in the latest Public Policy Poll: 45 to 41.
Senator Hagan is turning out to be a remarkable candidate. Personable and approachable, with an easy knowledge of the gritty details of a balanced state budget she's helped write for the last few fiscal years, Kay has proven herself to be the tough Democrat we needed against an incumbent no one could have imagined to be vulnerable a year ago.

What's more, the DSCC gambit appears to have spooked the directors of its Republican counterparts at the RSCC, who recently announced that they won't be matching the Hagan money. Not even close. Not even for Elizabeth Dole, who Chaired the Committee during the disastrous 2006 season. Their message to Liddy Dole: you're on your own. Good luck with that.
