Jodie Evans disrupts Palin's speech at the RNC. In this photo by Paul Sancya of the AP, she unconsciously evokes another famous political image. However, "Vive le difference", as they say... CodePink is dedicated to nonviolent forms of protest only.
The power of this image rests in it's grim, tacit reminder that those who ignore the lessons of history ARE condemned to repeat them.
Medea Benjamin and Jodie, two of the founding members of CodePink, were given VIP tickets to the RNC by a frustrated Republican delegate. They entered the convention dressed extremely conservatively with their hair up, but had the classic "pink slips" under their clothing. 20 minutes into Palin's speech they climbed up on the stage.
UPDATE: link to CBS/WCCO video.
According to this article on Conde Nast's Portfolio, RNC chair Mike Duncan was so torqued off at the slow response from convention security that he nearly ended up having to deal with the fearsome ladies himself.
He might have been even more pissed off to know that Medea had gotten in not just once but twice - here she is also disrupting Phyllis Schafly's speech the day before!
Meanwhile, the third founding member, Gael Murphy, seen here with Desiree, presented CodePink's "Peace Platform" outside.
The CodePink members rode to the various conventions in a stylin' ride straight out of nightmares of most NASCAR aficianados.
Here are the ladies getting into their "Big Oil Money" action outside of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
I think Leola McConnell would be proud of this one...
Here you can see CodePink being backed against a fence by a line of police. Four women were arrested in a symbolic act of civil disobedience because they refused to acknowledge that "free speech needs a zone" in this country.
The brave women (and men! and kids!) of CodePink continue to take a nonviolent stand against the off-the-rails Bush regime.
C'est bon pour le moral!
