Hi everyone,
This is my first diary on Kos, though I read the site all the time and occasionally comment. I'm 25 year old life-long Democrat (raised by life-long Democrats) who lives in Washington DC and works for an energy firm in Northern Virginia. I read all the blogs and love to talk politics with anyone who'll listen. I initially supported Edwards, but quickly came around to Obama once he dropped out. My support thus far, I admit, has been pretty passive -- limited to giving money and doing my best to convince the undecideds I meet along the way. But last night Sarah Palin got me so angry I could barely sleep, and I am now very definitely FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!
Palin's speech reminded EXACTLY what's at stake and why my muted support is not enough. I could barely sleep I was so angry at the smugness and sarcasm in her attacks. And I was outraged by the flat out lies she told. It wasn't until this morning that I could think clearly enough to actually focus on the complete and total lack of substance. She never even SAID the words "health care." Or "middle class." Or "college." Or "Afghanistan." She insulted "community organizers" as a means of putting down Obama's experience... never mind that while she's only been governor for 20 months, Obama has had 20 YEARS worth of accomplishments since his community organizing days in Chicago.
Well Kossacks, with 60 days left I decided I could stand by no longer. I went to Obama's site and started a fundraising page. I emailed every friend, family member, co worker and old roommate I thought would listen and asked them to get involved. And the response has been overwhelming -- my fundraiser has already brought in over $700 !
Well, let me tell you that was quite a rush! But now I'm hungry for more, and as a result I'm sitting here typing out my first diary on DailyKos, despite the fact I've read the site for over 2 years. I know the people in this community are dedicated to getting Obama elected, and so I'm hoping that you all can help me raise some cash for him.
Here's the link. And to sweeten the pot a bit, I am pledging to match every dollar donated with one of my own, right up to the maximum $2300 I can give for the general election. SO -- how about it Kossacks? Will you join me??
If you're still here, thanks for reading.
