Okay, he didn't really say that. But what he said is damning enough. . .
Rick Davis,McCain's lobbyist in chief, just complained on "Fox News Sunday" that Sarah Palin was not receiving enough "deference" from the press. To quote Rick:
"And, Chris, all due respect, I mean the information that the news media is putting out on Sarah Palin is not what I would call objective journalism. So until at which point in time we feel like the news media is going to treat her with some level of respect and deference I think it would be foolhardy to put her out in that kind of environment."
We can blog all we want on this issue, but we live in an adversarial political system in which a free press is meant to cross examine candidates for our highest offices.
All of this begs the question: If not now, when?
I know many of you want to take the focus off of Palin and put it squarely on McCain. And perhaps that's where it should be. But the question is, in light of
Palin's near-total interview blackout, whether Americans will clamor that Palin be vetted, despite McCain's total failure to do so.
