Browsing the HuffingtonPost early this morning I came across a headline that said "Blog Reader: My Encounter Yesterday With Sarah Palin"
http://www.americablog.com/...
In it is detailed an encounter with the Presidential and Vice Presidential duo of Bush/Cheney I mean McCain/Palin at a New Mexico restaurant where an average citizen asked really hard hitting questions, so hard that the duo could not answer them.
The restaurant in question is a popular restaurant called El Pinto a popular spot in Albuquerque.
We were eating outside in the patio closest to the main road and had just finishing lunch when I saw the McCain bus drive by! It was followed closely by a number of police motorcycles, secret service SUVS, and press vans. It was obvious they were coming to El Pinto!
We figured we'd head out and see if we could get a closer look. I decided this might be my one chance, to ask one question of each candidate. I carried Caterina (16 months) along with me to meet the candidates.
...snip...
McCain worked his way up to me and Cat and as I shook his hand, I asked, "Sir, I respect your service but, why were you against the GI bill?" Senator McCain, paused, he looked a bit surprised at the question and then he said, "Nice to meet you." I repeated the question and he repeated his non-answer. He quickly worked his way down the line. So much for straight-talk!
Truly perplexing the Senator. Maybe he was confused on what the G.I. Bill was since he was not present when the Senate voted on it. Or maybe he just did not remember his opposition to it. Or maybe he got it confused with his post support of it after it was signed by the President.
Then came Sarah Palin's turn a bit after:
Sarah first looked at Caterina said hello, and I shook her hand. I asked, "Are supporting Ted Stevens this year?" She replied, "He's under indictment you know...his trial is in September." I replied, "But are you voting for him?" She walked away without answering.
So can we expect anything approaching real questions like this from Charles Gibson when he meets Sarah "The Chosen One" Palin sometime this week for that interview. I would imagine not. It's becoming more obvious that McCain and Palin both are empty suits with empty rhetoric, unprepared to answer any real questions. McCain has had a history of it throughout the campaign. And Palin is proving herself to be the empty vacuous suit of rhetoric that she says Obama is. Face it sister, you ain't have the orator as Obama. And her celerity status is equal more equal to that of the train wreck status of Brittany Spears than anything else.
These are basic questions, not personal ones, attack ones, or gotcha ones. These are genuine ones bout policy and ideology. Yet neither candidate was willing to talk about them openly or honestly, perhaps out of fear for making a gaffe. Remember "The candidate does not speak for the campaign."
In the end though, Jim got the last word: OBAMA
My wife Angela was at the entrance with my son Andrea holding up a home made Obama sign and shouting at McCain, Palin and the press. It made me very proud. A memorable lunch at El Pinto.
