I've just seen a news report by Sara Kuler: "McCain, Palin criticize Obama on earmarks."
WHAT?
First paragraph:
John McCain and Sarah Palin criticized Democrat Barack Obama over the amount of money he has requested for his home state of Illinois, even though Alaska under Palin's leadership has asked Washington for 10 times more money per citizen for pet projects.
OK so far, I guess, but...
It goes on to say that Obama hasn't asked for any earmarks this year, and that last year he asked for $25 per Illinois resident, as compared to Alaska's $295 per resident.
But then this:
The governor did reject plans to build the notorious "Bridge to Nowhere" after Congress had cut off its funding.
When, when will they start to follow through with the fact that Palin kept the money? You and I know this, but the average person does not.
Furthermore, McCain has gone on the attack, accusing Obama of getting earmarks that amount to
almost a million dollars for every single day he was in the United States Senate.
No mention of the per-person amount, which is the only amount that really matters. No mention of the fact that Alaska is
by far the largest per-capita consumer of federal pet-project spending.
The Obama campaign needs to fight back hard on this issue.
