Seek to find the balance in everything. Even if McCain wins this election, one of only two things are likely to happen:
- McCain continues to pursue failed Bush policies and further damages the country. Republicans will have mortgaged their entire soul to win this election--only winning by throwing out bald-faced lies about being reformers. Four years from now, the Republican brand won't just be in the gutter, it will be rotting in the sewer and it will smell so bad that Mondale could win in a landslide. Democrats are likely to make further gains in the House and Senate.
- McCain will actually turn out to be a "Maverick," and will enact successful policies that help America. Not needing his "base" anymore, he'll give them a giant middle finger and work with Democrats to pass progressive issues, much like Bill Clinton worked with Republicans in the 90s. And no matter how successful McCain is, Democrats will have a good chance to win after 12 years of consecutive Republican rule. The history of Presidential politics inevitably runs in cycles. A new generation of young people leans heavily Democratic.
Work hard to elect Obama, but don't get discouraged about America. We'll get through this. We've come a long way as a country, and even though politics is a dirty game, it is never able to stop the march of the moral zeitgeist.
