There are two main kinds of campaign diaries here: diaries focused on the Democratic versus the Republican approaches to government and the consequences thereof, and diaries focused on putting down McCain/Palin or building up Obama/Biden as personalities.
I love both kinds of diary. Really.
But It seems to me that things are getting a little off balance.
Open another tab right now, and look over the list of current diaries. Eliminate non-campaign diaries (I love them too!) and then tally up the number of "TMZ" diaries versus the number of issue-oriented diaries.
Shocking, isn't it.
Here's the small suggestion: for those who regularly contribute diaries here, set for yourself a very simple discipline : after each tabloid-style diary, don't publish another until you have published an issue-oriented diary.
How hard could that be?
I have a couple of minor suggestions as well:
(1) Rate up issue-oriented diaries.
(2) Do the same alternation for comments: if you comment on a personality diary, look around for an issue diary, and if there is one, try to come up with a relevant comment there before making another comment on a puff piece.
Have fun!
