Watching Sarah Palin's interview was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. She spent the last week in GOP training pants, yet could not compensate for her basic intellectual density on rudimentary foreign policy questions.
She rambled incoherently when grilled on a wide variety of issues. Check out this erudite gem from the potential lady VP:
"I answered him 'yes' because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink. So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate"
It reminded be of Miss South Carolina contestant Lauren Caitlin who came off like a total moron at the Miss Teen USA 2007 pageant when asked why so many Americans can't locate America on a map. No doubt many of those folks are now rabid fans of Sarah Palin.
The Palin pick does not empower women. It is, in fact, demeaning to many Republican women who have a depth of knowledge of government, foreign affairs, economics and social issues. Why did they pick Palin when they had a very talented pool of more highly qualified women?
It feeds the notion that a tough hockey mom can become president, when such positions require greater intellectual credentials and experience. You can't dumb down the vice presidency and cut any women to fit.
Palin is clearly a charismatic political animal, but she is no Margaret Thatcher. She is a square peg that the Rovians are trying to fit into a round hole. Palin is, quite frankly, embarrassing to watch. It is interesting to observe the press tap dance around a painfully obvious fact. You can't potty train your way to the vice presidency.
