A lot is being made of Sarah Palin's being caught flatfooted when asked about the "Bush Doctrine", and while that one was bad enough, isn't there another, maybe more fundemental error waiting to be revealed?
Take this quote from the Gibson interview, when asked about Georgia's admission to NATO and a possible war with Russia, she said:
"It doesn't have to lead to war and it doesn't have to lead, as I said, to a Cold War, but economic sanctions, diplomatic pressure, again, counting on our allies to help us do that in this mission of keeping our eye on Russia and Putin and some of his desire to control and to control much more than smaller democratic countries."
Nevermind the supreme vacuity of this response (keep an eye on Russia? Huh?), there's something else lurking here. Last I heard, Dmitri Medvedev was President of Russia and, as President, is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Putin left office and became Prime Minister this Spring, yielding command of the army to his successor. Shouldn't the Vice President know this?
