Karl Rove made the astounding pronouncement on Fox News. (In fairness to Karl Rove – and who would not want to be fair to the scum of the earth – he also said Obama’s campaign was making edgy claims, but that is really a dog-bites-man story barely worthy of notice.)
So this got me thinking about trying to reverse engineer Rove’s Theory of Appropriate Lying.
Fox News
As you can see, McCain’s lies are currently way above his credibility curve both in terms of their volume and Velocity of Discovery (absence of truthiness.) This is driving McCain’s credibility curve even lower and making it harder to tell believable lies in the future.
In Rove’s model, McCain should immediately reduce his lying level to get it within his credibility curve. McCain can then work on pseudo-patriotism, media manipulation and manufactured crises to move his credibility curve toward the level of deception he needs for election.
That will allow him to increase his lying in late October and early November to the necessary levels. Fortunately, this is beyond McCain's modest competence.
