We've all been reduced to the role of consumers by a capitalist and corporatist political agenda. The power of Labor has been successfully undermined and many voters have been "divided and conquered" by appeals to emotional and religious convictions but it struck me recently that the power to change our system may be right in our hands.
Capitalism's Achilles Heel is the fact that it cannot force us to buy its stuff but it needs us to do so! If we stop buying in a focused "consumer strike" we can put huge pressure on corporations who in turn will lobby their people in our government to start the process of giving us what we want. It's not like we have to endure picket lines and watch our families go hungry. They can't send goons to beat us up! Nor can they fire us!If Capitalism has taken over our government and our ability to govern ourselves and given that power to corporations then we have the ability to take our power back by selective boycotts of those very corporations. I can tell you they'll be screaming "uncle" within weeks if we can hurt their bottom line.
