Attention Wisconsin attorneys!
An article on truthout.org describles a GOP launched partisan lawsuit that seeks to deprive tens of thousands of Wisconsin citizens of their right to vote based on technical problems and clerical errors in the new statewide voter database.
"A lawsuit filed by the state attorney general Wednesday has the potential to slow down voting lines in what promises to be a staggering turnout for the Nov. 4 election, local voting officials said.
"It will disenfranchise voters. That's what we're concerned about," City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl said.
What can we do?
An email was sent from the Obama campaign, however, I don't know who all received it. I want to get the message out to others who may be able to help.
The email states:
To prevent voter disenfranchisement, we need hundreds of lawyers and law students to serve as polling place observers on Election Day. If you have not signed up to be a Counsel for Change, please do so at: http://my.barackobama.com/...
If you are one of the over 200 attorneys who have already joined to help, welcome and thank you! But we need your help before Election Day too. This Thursday, September 18, we will be holding a virtual phone bank where attorneys from across Wisconsin call other attorneys in the state to encourage them to become Counsels for Change. You can make these calls from home or from our Madison (433 W Washington) office.
