I have my Alarm Clock Radio set to go off at 5:30 AM and every day, I manage to hit the off button within milliseconds of the radio piping my local NPR station, KWMU.
Today was different. As I woke up, I heard Palin and McCain from yesterday saying how Obama said Americans were bitter and clinged to religion and guns. How McCain wouldn't raise your taxes in this bad economy, how Sarah Palin would not cooperate with Troopergate and would try to delay it. How Obama was conducting a fundraiser with Barbara Stresand.
What I never heard was.. While Obama made the Bitter comment back in April, one of McCain's advisers has since said that this is a nation of Whiners. That McCain himself said as recently as yesterday that the Fundamentals of our economy are strong. How McCain himself and his top adviser were part of the filth that caused the economic meltdown that we saw.
What I never heard was, NPR explaining that, while McCain was saying Obama would raise taxes, Obama would raise it only on the top 2% income earners. That McCain would make your Employer paid health insurance benefits taxable, effectively increasing your taxable income, which would result in you getting a net income tax increase.
What I heard was, the Troopergate investigation was being run by a Democrat who used to be a prosecutor. What I did not was, how the investigation was approved by a committee with a 3-2 majority for republicans. How The Cop who was fired (Monegan) tried to budget to allow the Government to pay for Rape Kits, while Sarah Palin claimed he was being fired for not being a team player in relation to budgeting. Someone said, "We have no idea why they need to accelerate the probe and not delay it until after the election." I did not hear NPR say, "So that the American people know who they are choosing for office."
I heard about Obama's Streisand fundraiser. What I did not hear was a comparison of Lehman Brothers contribution to McCain, and to Obama.
But then what we did here was NPR move on to a story about cats and adoption. The only reason I knew the things I did not hear, and should have heard, had the media done its job of presenting facts, is because I spend a good chunk of my day reading articles on DailyKos every day.
The news at 5.30 left me steaming, furious, and with a sense of impending doom. Till Palin, McCain was at least better than Bush, but now, I honestly believe the Republican pairing will end up being worse than Bush for the country. This makes it even more imperative that we act. That We get the word out there.
About McCain surrogates saying we are a nation of Whiners
About McCain surrogates in the media still say we are a nation of exaggerators.
About the true tax policies of McCain and Obama
About McCain's and his advisors' roles in causing the current economic meltdown.
About Troopergate being initiated by a Republican majority committee
About why we need to know, deserve to have an answer, a yes or no, about Troopergate ahead of November, so we know who we are picking.
What do we do? Here is a call to action, a simple one.
At your office, at home, on the way home from work, every day, find two people who do not know. Two who do not spend time online on Dailykos, and who does not get enough information to decide. Tell him the truth on the above items.
Make an email that contains the essence of the above items. Information is easy to come by using diaries on Dailykos over the past two weeks. Send this email out.
Confront the media that will not do their job. Call or write into NPR, or your local NPR radio station. Ask them why, as they broadcast patently false claims of the McCain campaign, as uttered on the campaign trail, NPR does not tell the truth alongwith it.
Spread the information everyone. Unlike us information junkies, people do not know what they need to. They do not know how big a risk they would be taking if they voted this November without information. We owe it to the nation to have every voter know the truth.
Godspeed!
