DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DIARY!!! It's not a proper diary and really doesn't belong here! (OK, rec if you want.)
I'm breaking all kinds of rules by posting this as a diary, but I wanted to get word to Spath's kossack pals that we're ok. I'm at the office for the first time this week and we have Intertube access here, so I'm trying to get messages out to friends and family when I can. I don't know if I'll be able to respond to comments, but I'll do what I can as time allows.
We made it through Ike quite well. We were only without power for about 8 hours, and water for a day. Unfortunately though we still have no cable/Intertube . The house survived well and when we get Intertube access Spath will probably post a few of the more interesting pics. Lots of debris from trees and such, but no real damage.
The only other comments we have are as follows:
Bill White for Governor! He has been fantastic! Absolutely stellar! He's a hero in this town to everyone of every political view.
Gov. Perry has looked and acted like a total ass. He's been nothing but a weasel politician throughout.
FEMA is being FEMA. Total BS at every turn. It's amazing when an administration that doesn't believe government works can make sure that it doesn't.
We're completely cut off from the world since all we can get is local TV (which is 24/7 local news) so we have no idea what's going on politically, or otherwise in the rest of the world. Did Obama win yet?
Oh, and I've now got two lovely birthday memories. 9/11 was my 30th b-day (just like Kos) and now it's also a reminder of Ike. I swear, I'm putting in a request to the state to have my b-day date changed. April sounds good.
(...and BarbinMD you may have received some weird text messages to your gmail account over the weekend. That was Spath. Yours was the only email she could remember. She was desperate to communicate to the outside world.)
Update: Man, you folks don't read well do ya? :-) Thanks for all the recs!
I just wish Spath could see all the good cheer. I'll try and expand all the comments and print it out later to take home to her. It'll make her day! If she can get her phone to work proper, she may try to post a comment at some point, but I wouldn't count on it. Ain't easy to get the site up on a basic sprint phone.
