After meeting Barack Obama and seeing his quiet, yet strong nature. I asked myself how can we promote and introduce his great confidence and hope to America. I don't blog often, but I work in a creative business and hoped that I could help in some way. What I came up with is an idea for an ad that I'd like to share with all of you at Daily Kos. Here it is:
Frame one
A quiet tree-lined working class neighborhood early in the morning, a lone silhouette of a figure walks down the street toward the camera.
More below....
Frame two
The figure comes into view and its Barack Obama wearing the clothing that he normally campaigns in (light blue open collar shirt) and he’s wearing a small tool belt. Still walking toward the camera he notices a dilapidated house fence that has fallen over and stops, looks at it and stoops over to begin making repairs to it. Another person walks up and begins to help him set the fence upright, another than joins the group, then another, and so on until a large group is working. A man with a can of paint and brush walks up and taps on Obama’s shoulder and says, "Senator Obama, what are we going to do about that." and points upward and toward the camera.
Frame three
Cut to a generic image of Wall Street (or any other symbolic image of an important issue).
Frame four
Cut back to the two men who are looking upward and toward the camera. Obama says, "We’re gonna need a bigger tool belt."
Frame five
Obama stands in front of all the workers who had come to help repair the fence and says, "This country faces many challenges in the years ahead, but with your help we can fix the problems that face America."
Then Obama leads the group, which has swelled to about 100 people past the camera and as he goes he says, "I’m Barack Obama and I’ll work with you to bring change to America – and (smiling) I approved this message."
I know that it is rough, but it could easily be modified.
I thought the utility tool belt made a good symbol of working and of leadership. I know that this is pretty soft sell stuff, but it will make a great contrast with the harsh tone that has been ringing in voters ears.
Here in Indiana the polling is moving toward Obama. So I'm hoping that by contrasting quiet hard-working Midwestern values with McCain's hard charging untruths may create an interesting dynamic.
