The entire American economy is in danger, President Bush tells us.
Without rapid and decisive action the safety and security of America and every American family is at stake. No foreign threat – not al Quaeda, not Saddam Hussein, not North Korea – has been able to bring us to our knees. Only our own leaders – in the Bush Administration, on Wall Street, in business – have had that ability.
We have met the enemy and he is us!
It’s time for Congress to re-assert its authority under the Constitution and enact appropriate restraints and regulations to ensure that this horrendous threat to America doesn’t happen again in our lifetimes or those of our children and grand-children.
Unrestrained greed has put the American Dream in grave danger; not for the fat cats with their multiple homes, private jets, and golden parachutes, but for ordinary Americans, the very people who are being asked to foot the bill for the excesses of their leaders. The Constitution created checks and balances on leaders’ natural human tendencies towards authoritarianism, greed, sloth and indolence.
It’s time for Congress to re-assert its authority under the Constitution and enact appropriate restraints and regulations to ensure that this horrendous threat to America doesn’t happen again in our lifetimes or those of our children and grand-children.
That’s what Franklin Delano Roosevelt thought he did three generations ago. The New Dealers’ work to safeguard America and Americans has been undermined at every turn by Reagan Revolutionaries and Bush Neocons. Let’s throw the Republican bums out and get back to an America which protects all of its people.
