On MSNBC right now, Rachel Maddow anchoring: Barney Frank is holding an impromptu press conference to announce that House Republicans have essentially bailed on the bailout process, trying to interject instead their completely new plan.
It's just weird seeing House Dems insisting that they want to work on the plan President Bush asked for (to make it halfway decent), and Republicans blasting it out of the water.
It smells of trap. They're trying to flip the scenario, make Dems the ones on Bush's side and McCain the Bush opponent. That's my instant reaction anyway, which I may revise later. (Note: if it is, I don't think it's going to work.) Anyway, putting this up now to let people know.
UPDATE: That was quick, Reuters has a story up 20 minutes ago noting Bush's preference for the original Paulson plan as opposed to this new one the House Republicans are pushing. Presidential sacrifice play?

UPDATE4: About the only more or less MSM thing online seems to be at Politico. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
