If not now, then when? If not you, then who?
You know what today is, right? October 4. You know when the election is, right? November 4. So maybe you've said to yourself, "Of course I'll give some money at some point to Barack Obama. But he doesn't seem to need it . . . yet." Or maybe you've given before and are waiting for another "reason" to do it. The next debate. An especially negative McCain attack ad. Another Palin gaffe. Cubs winning the World Series (damn you, you insufferable chokers!!)
Well guess what - time is running out. Obama needs our money now, not tomorrow. Because tomorrow turns into next week, next week turns into next month, and next month . . . we'll have a new President.
I finally got my fiance to give money this morning. We're not wealthy by any means, and ever since the primary I've been giving $25 here, $30 there. To date I've probably given somewhere around $300. So to wake up this morning and hear my fiance tell me she'd given Obama $100, I was ecstatic. I thought to myself, "Oh yeah." Then I thought, "Hey wait, you could've gotten me a totally kick-ass football-helmet upside-down bowl for the purpose of putting salsa into and scooping said salsa out of said bowl with delicious nacho chips." Then I went to the bathroom, thought about it, and ultimately decided that I could live without the kick-ass football helmet bowl. I mean, we all have to make sacrifices.
So, after being inspired by her giving, I decided to step to the plate and do a solid - I threw in another $50 this morning. There goes that Elizabeth Taylor perfume/L'Eggs scented pantyhose basket I was going to get her. It's like the damn Gift of the Magi in this house! Even the cats are thinking about giving up their daily allowance (those Dr. Noy's stuffed squirrels don't pay for themselves) to chip in for the O-man.
Look at the numbers that kos assembled the other day. Obama is currently crushing McCain in TV spending in the crucial battleground states. With the RNC completely flush with cash, you know that those numbers are not and cannot remain so favorable to our candidate - the right-wing backlash onslaught is about to begin in earnest.
So give some money. Seriously, when else are you going to do it? Call the people who you think have given in the past or who you think might give. Lay it on the line. Give 'em the hard sell. Right now is when the campaign needs it. Not in three weeks, not in November, they need it now. One final donation push.
Oh, and Go Cubbies, even though you don't deserve it (4 errors? 4? In the biggest game of the season? Pathetic.)
