Throughout the past few months living in Indiana (I'm now at college in Louisiana) I was surprised to see campaign ads. It really was bizarre. I'd never seen national campaign ads in my entire lifetime, Obama's were the first.
Turns out Obama was on to something. According to The Indy Star,
...[McCain's] campaign signaled that it would counter Obama's efforts in Indiana, a state that hasn't voted for a Democrat since 1964.
Oh?
Although IndyStar.com has pulled it down, I recall one of there recent articles (perhaps on August 4th?) said McCain supporters were glad McCain wasn't wasting money on Indiana.
Now the McCain camp has started running ads in Indiana. It makes me a little sad that I'm in college right now and cannot see this desperation for myself, but oh well. I'll be rewarded enough if Obama wins.
Oh, and by the way, this article had some interesting insights.
McCain hasn't visited the state since July 1 and the campaign has no field offices, relying on state- and county-level organizations to build support.
and...
"Barack Obama was committed to Indiana from the beginning," Swain said. "Meanwhile, Republicans have really taken this state for granted."
And what are the Republican's excuse for running these ads? That since Obama had been showing so many "negative" ads they had to respond. Not that they're in danger of winning the state. Of course not.
Oh and McCain as far as I know has made no plans to actually visit Indiana. As for Obama, look what I just got in my inbox:
This Wednesday, October 8th, please join Barack Obama for a rally in Indianapolis, where he will talk about his vision for creating the kind of change we need.
For anyone who wants to attend that event, more details are here.
Does anyone else smell another landside victory for the Democrats of LBJ-like proportions? Maybe not quite so large, but then again, maybe so. I smell desperation on McCain's side.
EDIT: The last time Indiana was democratic was the LBJ landslide. And I sincerely doubt that a post by a n00b blogger is going to get any people to not want to vote. Sorry to upset you all, now calm down.
