The Obama campaign is pleased that McCain will spend the next thirty days making outrageously inaccurate attacks on Obama's character, as opposed to focusing on the economy or other issues of importance to voters. The Obama campaign has opted out of public financing, and therefore is relying on continued donations in a way that Presidential campaigns never have before this close to election day. And nothing spikes donations like slimy inaccurate negative ads. Why else do you see fundraising emails regularly expressing outrage at an opponent's latest negative broadside? (Arianna Huffington documents this phenomenon here).
So, when you see these awful McCain ads rolling over the airwaves next week, don't despair. Instead, listen for the sound of Obama's cash registers ca-chinging.
(To help make those cash registers ring, and to show McCain/Palin you won't stand for these negative ads, go here and help contribute a few $$).
