I have just finished watching the Palin speech from her stop in Omaha. I thought it might be interesting to contrast her stop with that of Obama during the primaries. (Note: I was at the Obama stop and watched the live webcast of Palin.)
Last spring I attended the campaign stop of Barack Obama in Omaha. It was in the Omaha Civic Auditorium same place as Sarah Palin speech tonight. However, Obama packed the Auditorium itself with approximately 10,000 people. Palin gave her "speech" in a side auditorium that seats a maximum of 2453.
Here is the quick rundown:
Palin is introduced by Gov. Dav Heineman who repeats the "most liberal senator" crap again and goes on to talk about how Palin represents "us" and "our" values.
Palin talks about how she wanted to come to Nebraska.
She likes the UNO hockey team the Mavericks.
Brings up Obama and his comments about guns and religion.
Claims that John McCain is the same man regardless of where he goes.
Palin goes on to speak in generalities about McCain.
Intimates that only McCain wants the country to WIN.
Brings up the POW card for McCain.
She goes on about how she sent the money back to the people in Alaska.
Goes on about energy, (crowd chants Drill, Baby, Drill) all of the above.
Says we need to drill here, and drill now. (There is no oil in Nebraska.)
Repeats clean, green, natural gas.
Says we need to use what GOD has so richly blessed us with.
John McCain is the real reformer and so am I.
Accuses Obama of raising taxes on families making $42,000.
Slams the media, repeats lies.
Barack Obama is going to raise your taxes. repeats.
Mentions a less than successful interview, says she was trying to give Tina Fey more material (I would say mission accomplished.)
Now she is repeating the New York Times story meme again about Ayers.
Attacks Obama as not seeing America the way we do.
On to exceptionalism (extra points for multiple syllable word.)
Finishes with the standard "There is only one man who has fought for America"
No questions from the crowd just the same talking points spouted elsewhere.
So the strategy has taken form, question Obama on his associations, he is scary, he is not like us.
Update:
If you would like to view it (I had a hard enough time watching it the first time.)
