I just got this great e mail from the Matthew 25 network about a new outreach called ProLife/ProObama.

This website is designed to answer the question can a person who is decidedly pro life, support Obama. I know that abortion will always be a "hot" topic around election time.
Facing an unplanned pregnancy can mean a woman is facing a serious crisis. She needs real help.
Health care for a strong mother and healthy baby. Education - not only well-run preschools but also higher education plans that offer support to mothers - and fathers - who have dreams of supporting themselves and making their own contribution to our economy. Child care programs that respond to the needs of working families.
The anti-abortion movement has always been more focused on making abortion illegal instead of working reduce the number of abortions in this country
Many pro-life advocacy efforts have focused on the legal status of abortion, rather than addressing prevention of unplanned pregnancy and the needs of pregnant women and families. This has intensified the division and partisanship around this issue, but has little effect at reducing the abortion rate itself.
Abortion reaches across all economic leves, however the statistics on who is having abortions is quite telling:
We need a systemic, common ground, common sense approach. Nearly two-thirds of women who have abortions are poor. Almost half are college-age or younger. Two thirds are single.
Comprehensive sex education (which also includes teaching abstinence), better access to pre and post natal care and quality child care, adoption initiatives are all ways to reduce the number of abortions in this country.
It's time we took back the abortion issue from the right wing of the republican party. It's not about doing away with choice. I firmly believe in a woman's right to choose what is best for her; however, reducing the number of abortions in this country needs to be a priority for both the pro choice and the anti abortion movement.
