I did not grow up in a racist environment, so I have trouble understanding people who love to hate. Sarah Palin and John McCain have decided to call out the lynch mobs in their desperation to win the election. Their campaign events are now sounding like a gathering of the KKK with people openly advocating for the killing of Obama and hurling racial epithets at African American journalists. Scary stuff.
Lately they have been demanding that the media, which they stonewalled and vilified, vet Obama. Palin has conveniently exempted herself from this requirement. She calls Obama a terrorist with no justification, while she is a known sympathizer of the Alaska Independence Party, of which her husband is a member. She criticizes Obama's pastor while a you tube video clearly shows Palin and her pastor seeking protection from witch doctors.
This leads me to ask a number of questions, because there are real consequences of this strategy for our troubled country.
Are we going to revisit the racist cross burnings and mob killings that we thought had been buried in annals of history. Should African American be afraid for their lives over the next thirty days and beyond, if Obama wins? Will the terrorist-racist meme of the Republican campaign have long term consequences for race relations between black and white Americans?
If Obama does win, will the Republicans rile up enough racists to make certain parts of the country virtually ungovernable? Will our journalists sit quietly and watch this vicious, reprehensible campaign go unchecked or will thye have the courage to tell the truth? When will the stop looking the other way?
The American people must demand that the Republicans stop this vicious, false attacks. Our voices and demands will not be drowned out beneath the din emitting from Sean Hannity, John McCain and Sarah Palin. Our economy is in triage and needs an emergency injection of real, workable economic solutions to make it better and we need to demand answers from the Republicans.
