This will not be a long diary as I am absolutely worn out from running errands all day but I did want to make a few comments regarding food shortages at local food banks.
more below the fold
I went to the grocery store today and bought and delivered 250 pounds of assorted food items. I knew there was a food shortage at most food banks but I had no idea it was as bad as is now. They were so appreciative of everything and said that the need is so much greater now than before. The nice lady that filled out my paperwork said that before they saw a lot of need towards the end of each month when people run short before they get their monthly checks and such. She said now it was at the first of the month and all month long and they were supplying local pantries that were servicing the working poor. She said so many more had become homeless in a short of amount of time. I can only imagine that it's going to get much much worse.
I just wanted to give everyone a quick reminder that if you can see way to help, please donate to your local food bank. I go to Second Harvest Food Bank to donate but I'm sure the need in your area is just as great as the need in mine.
This is one thing most all of us can help with at least a little bit...a few cans of food would go a long way.
Another thing to think of for anyone that likes to sew or craft. Winter is coming and the homeless need blankets. I am working with a day clinic that helps mostly men...only because I was given that shelter as a contact and they were in need of blankets. It doesn't matter to me where they go as long as they go to someone that needs them. I am planning to make about 10-15 simple quilts to hand out. I hope to be able to do stamping on the squares with the words Love and Hope. I hope I can find the stamps to do it with..if not I will come up with another way.
I know this is short but I just wanted to get the word out there for those that can help.
Peace,
Donna
