This diary will be brief. Very brief. But I am absolutely outraged.
Sarah Palin.
Alaska Independence Party.
Yeah. We can talk all day about how bad it is.
But let's try to view it through a different context, shall we? We've spent a lot of time talking about Sarah Palin's patriotism problem--and that of John McCain as well, since he picked her. We've talked about Sarah Palin cavorting around with America's enemies--as if it parallels in any way whatsoever Barack Obama's tangential connection with a figure who committed despicable acts 40 years ago who is now a perfectly acceptable bipartisan figure in Chicago.
No, let's do something different for a minute. Let's put the shoe on the other foot.
Let's say that Jill Biden, Joe Biden's wife, were a longstanding member of a party that advocated Delaware's secession from the United States.
Let's say that this party enlisted the aid of Iran to promote its radical anti-United States agenda.
Let's say that the founding member of this party had this to say about the government and the flag of the United States:
"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.
"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."
Let's say that Barack Obama's running mate, Joe Biden, attended at least one of this party's conventions, and even addressed the convention in 2006, saying "keep up the good work."
Imagine all of that.
Now imagine what the likes of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and all of those blowhards would be saying about Joe Biden's patriotism, and Barack Obama's lack of patriotism and judgment for selecting Joe Biden.
Think about that.
Don't compare Sarah Palin's AIP problem to Barack Obama's Ayers "problem." Make people imagine what the media environment would be if it were Joe Biden.
