Just heard the news that Hillary and Bill will join Joe Biden in Scranton for a rally. It will, of course be a big media event and it's great news for the Democrats. Then why am I so sad and cynical?
Perhaps it's because the election is winding to a close and I have yet to see Bill, Hillary and Obama at a campaign event. Heck, I would be happy just to see Obama and Bill on a stage somewhere, anywhere. Bill Clinton spoke about attending the rally and gushed about the close friendship the couple share with the Bidens. That's great, but Obama is running for President. The couple did not attend Obama's acceptance speech and have been very low keyed throughout the election. Is it that the separation has been carefully orchestrated to prevent Clinton from overshadowing Obama or are they all still battle scarred?
I wish the couple that has championed civil rights for decades and who provided so much guidance and leadership to the black community would have been seen publicly embracing and wholeheartedly supporting the country's first black nominee. It is clear that the dynamics of politics and power have played a more prominent role in the estrangement of the Clintons and Obama than the goals and purposes that Democrats cherish .
A little civility and camaraderie between these political forces would go a long way to heal the still oozing wound of the Democratic party.
