We've all been basking in the afterglow of another solid debate performance by Barack Obama. Even the most conservative columnists are throwing back-handed compliments and flags of surrender. We shouldn't concern ourselves with those who think clearly and have some sense of right and wrong. Nope, shouldn't worry about those folks. Join me below:
I wrote in a dairy a few days ago about the October surprises being these McCain rallies that have become ripe with hate speech and a magnet that draws the ignorant masses. The KKK rallies of the 21st century.
John McCain has sold his soul. And Sarah Palin is more than comfortable spewing the venom of hate speak.
No they are not calling Barack Obama a N-word. Terrorist has greater meaning. There are numbers of people who now conclude that Obama is a terrorist just based on what Palin has said in the last few days. There is no logic. There is no reasoning. Just pure hate.
McCain and Palin are stirring up the worst in us. The sleeping giant of overt racism has been awakened in the last 72 hours. Barack Obama said it earlier this summer that the McCain and the GOP were going to try to scare voters...make him seem different. Well, we are here.
I don't have a string of block quotes to fill out the space. Just personal observations about the state of the presidential race.
Perhaps it's good that we are having this campaign at this time in our history. We can only hope and vote that America will reject McCain's cynical and hate-filled campaign.
I watched Cindy McCain jump into the fray today. Wow! She's mentioning her son now that it is politically expedient. She's talking about Obama's vote that defunded the war. What she doesn't mention...and neither did the news organizations that are looping her comments...that John McCain voted the same way.
So here's where we are:
McCain is down in the national polls and behind in several key states. Sarah Palin is the attack dog in lipstick running around attracting the least common denominator of our country where redneck police officers introduce her by stating Barack's full name. Cindy McCain is jumping into the garbage pale.
There's a very disturbing video posted about a rally of McCain supports during which a news crew asked participants questions about Obama. Their ignorance if unbelievable. They are clinging to their guns, hatred for non-whites and feeling some kind of kinship to Palin. They are also low information voters who trust a woman whom they know nothing about over a man who has been on the national scene for two years. The blind faith is outrageous. These people don't watch the news. They don't read the newspapers. They rely on word of mouth to keep them informed.
Sarah Palin has unleashed the inner klan in a whole host of people just by making it OK to wonder outloud about Obama's heritage and friendships.
We can only hope that we can drown out these sub-humans on Nov. 4. The only way Obama loses is if the sub-humans convince enough low-information voters to turn the page on hope to keep our nation stuck in the current economic, social and foreign policy rut.
