There's a strange tone to the McCain campaign's recent pronouncements. "It's about truthfulness." "He's not telling the truth." These things are being said over and over.
I wonder if they think they have a card up their sleeve.
Now they have a long record of poor judgment. McCain thought Palin would wow the country and demoralize the opposition. He thought that pretending to suspend his campaign would astonish everyone and cause him to be elected by acclamation. He thought that announcing a taxpayer-funded mortgage principal reduction program/pander would blow the debate audience away with his economics brilliance and wisdom.
So if they think they have something up their sleeve, it is likely to be a piece of trivia that they will beat the hell out of until they realize that no one takes them seriously. I'm sure the Obama campaign already knows how to deal with a last-minute accusation. Guilt-by-association got a bad name because of Tailgunner Joe, and it isn't going to work this time.
Still, it may be interesting to listen to Palin's and McCain's words in light of the theory that they think they have a big revelation in their pocket, and are now doing warm-up.
