Imagine there was no Citibank,
It’s easy if you try.
No MBNA mailing bills to us,
Because below the Dow right now is only sky.
Imagine there was no B of A,
It isn’t hard to do.
No credit default swaps to bankrupt the country for,
And no collateralized mortgage obligations too.
Imagine all the I-banks
Resting in eternal peace.
You may say I’m a Maoist,
But I’m not the only one.
I’m hoping some day you’ll join us,
And the banks will be as one.
Imagine there was no Chase.
I wonder if you can.
The government would do the finance,
Because I trust Barney Frank more than I do Lehman.
Imagine all the credit cards,
Not paying to fete the magnates.
You may say I’m a Maoist,
But I’m not the only one.
I’m hoping some day you’ll join us,
And the banks will be as one.
Imagine if the government
Gave toasters to us at birth.
We could apply for boat loans on our 1040’s,
And pay them at the DMV.
I don’t hate Milton Friedman,
I just don’t mistake a non-working state for freedom.
Imagine there was no Wall Street,
And the profit prized above all
Went to you and me and everyone,
And not for gulfstreams and $200 alcohol.
It’s just I really think our equities
Shouldn’t come before our equity.
You may say I’m a Maoist,
But I’m not the only one.
I’m hoping some day you’ll join us,
And the ba-a-anks will be as one!
Thank yew! Thank yew, everybody!!
