McCain unleashes the Joker and regrets it
Desparate in their fight against Batman, the heads of the organized crime families in Gotham city hired the Joker. Sure, he did some good for a while, but in the end, they realized that they had unleashed something that could never be taken back.
I thought of this after McCain chose Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidental nominee. Purposefully appointing an "agent of intolerance" in the hopes of winning back a few from his base. He cynically chose Palin in order to accomplish a short term goal, just as the mafia families chose the Joker as a means of getting rid of Batman. McCain didn't think of what would happen afterwards, though. When you choose someone you hardly know, you are rolling the dice. He chose to give her a voice on the national stage; now he can't take it back.
We've seen over the past few days what Palin's nomination has amounted to. Palin's suggesting that Obama has been palling around with terrorists has led to something I never thought that I would see in my lifetime: unabashadly overt prejudice on a national scale. Audiences that want to kill Obama, and are not afraid to say so at a political rally. McCain's spokesperson criticizing Obama for complaining about these crowds, saying that he doesn't understand "regular people." http://www.politico.com/...
I saw regret on McCain's face when he was forced to admit that his opponent was not an arib. His audience wanted to eat him when he tried to defend Obama. McCain gave a voice to everyone that blames everything on minorities and liberals and gays and atheists and muslims. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/...
But McCain picked Palin. McCain tried to associate Obama with Ayers. McCain unleashed the Joker, and we all have to live with that.
