The McCain campaign has escalated its attacks on Obama for his position on abortion while The Real Truth About Obama Inc. led by James Bopp, the group behind the misleading and disturbing ads, seems to have a larger agenda... overturning the campaign reform laws that John McCain championed. It seems to me that McCain, by not publicly denouncing the group and James Bopp, has eroded a major pillar (campaign finance reform) that his "maverick" reputation is built on.
Talk about questionable associations. McCain has apparently decided to team up with James Bopp and his 527 group in order to push the issue of finance reform right under the Straight Talk Express. Bopp has been on the forefront of an effort to remove restrictions placed on 527's.
James Bopp, attorney for the Republicans Majority Issues Committee, the 527 group tied to Majority Whip Tom DeLay, R-Texas, is another who might resist the new law. He told the Center that his Section 527 clients — he won’t say how many there are — were considering three options: continuing as they are and following the new law, reorganizing to avoid disclosure or suing the government in an attempt to strike down the law. Like Wilson, Bopp argued that the law violates freedom of speech by forcing groups of citizens to disclose how much they spend on their advertisements.

This is just another example of the willingness of McCain to disregard his own sense of right and wrong in order to ensure a win this November. Someone needs to ask MCain how he feels about James Bopp (who initially was a Romney supporter but now "supports McCain") and his obvious disdain for finance reform specifically the reform McCain has championed.
Here is a link to the actual lawsuit filing:Filing 1.
Who is James Bopp?
- Attorney for Tom Delay (convicted on campaign finance violations)
- Opposed to abortion in cases of rape and incest.
The rarity of rape and incest related pregnancies does not warrant making exceptions for these cases in the amendments. If rape and incest exceptions are written into the amendments, they could serve as a wedge to permit other exceptions. Futhermore, it is wrong to punish the fetus for a crime it did not commit, and the performing of an abortion on a rape or incest victim only leads to the the further degradation of the victim. Victims should be provided with loving care and assistance to cope with their pregnancy rather than subjected to the humiliation and guilt associated with abortion.

- Successfully argued to the Supreme Court to weaken McCain-Feingold Law.
James Bopp Jr., an Indiana lawyer who has brought several court challenges against the legislation, known formally as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, said that yesterday's ruling was the fourth in a series that has steadily chipped away at the foundations of the law.
"What we're seeing is the court wants to limit the ability of the government to regulate political speech," he said. "I think there are few restrictions on political speech that will survive this court's analysis."
Bopp said he thinks the ruling could doom public financing programs in states, including North Carolina and Maine, where candidates can receive more public funding if their opponents or independent groups opposing them spend more than a certain amount.
The question is raise: Why does Bopp now support McCain and why has McCain excepted his support? Is McCain such a maverick that even he opposes himself?
