McCain pulled a fast one yesterday. Instead of introducing a new economic plan, he sought to regenerate himself - once again.
War Hero...Reformer...Maverick...Aisle-Crosser...Experienced...and now
for his latest re-generation...
A Fighter
Now, I happen to be a Doctor Who fan for years. And I love all his re-generations ( some more than others-(see poll below). And the idea of being able to re-create oneself is very appealing.
But I have say this. Out loud and up front. Emphatically. Right Now. John McCain, you are no Doctor Who. (a true Maverick, defender of the human race, and ultimate underdog).
You are more: Dr., Who... Am I?
More below the fold
Yesterday, McCain sought to re-vitalize his lagging campaign by trying to reinvent himself once again.
What America needs in this hour is a fighter... I come from a long line of McCains who believed that to love America is to fight for her. I have fought for you most of my life. There are other ways to love this country, but I’ve never been the kind to do it from the sidelines.
McCain I'm a Fighter re-generation
Senator McCain, what America needs in this hour is anything BUT a fighter.
We have been fighting too long. Literally in Iraq, where more Americans have died than who died in the 9/11 attacks, in a war you championed from Day 1, in a country that not only had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks, it turns out did NOT have WMD.
The American people are tired of fighting. We want peace. We are looking for peace. Peace with our allies, peace in Iraq. Peace for our military families. Peace among the states. Peace between our economic classes. Peace even in our own families.
Too many of us have had to endure strained and even the destruction of personal relationships caused by 8 years of a divisive, combative Bush Administration and supported by you, John McCain.
We want someone who can inspire us and bring us TOGETHER. Who can help us remember that as Americans we have more in common than we have differences. That's not a fighter. That is a peace-maker.
That (one) is Barack Obama
You keep saying "I know how to do this. I know how to do that." (catch bin Ladin, solve social security, fix the housing crisis, make the U.S. energy independent).
As a teacher, I tell my students all the time,
Don't TELL me, SHOW me!
And what have you shown us?
Your campaign has shown us that you fight dirty. That you divide people, not bring them together. Even in your own political party, droves of Republicans are vocally renouncing your policies and your tactics. These were lifelong Republicans who are disgusted and dismayed by your behavior.
Your campaign has shown us that you are not centered. YOU set the tone of your campaign, and it is very telling that the tone is negative, divisive, and incoherent. You rely on short-term, politcally-based objectives because you lack a strong moral, ethically foundation.
Your campaign has shown us that not only don't you tell the truth, you ignore the truth! Your campaign, words, actions (and lack of actions) are driving wedges between Americans as well. It has encouraged racist, hateful remarks and ugly acts. You say one thing, and then put out ads that say another.
In a country already battered by the partisan politics of Bush/Cheney Administration, ripped apart by deadly hurricanes, and still bleeding from the wounds inflicted on our Constitution by those sworn to protect it, we don't need a FIGHTER.
We need a PEACE MAKER - a calm, intelligent, wise individual with a positive message of hope and unity who has shown the ability to inspire, lead, motivate and bring together people from not just the 50 states, but all over the world.
We need someone who can begin healing the internal and external wounds that have been inflicted upon us militarily, politically and economically by yet another divisive and combative wannabe - George Bush. We can't afford 4 more years of the last 8 years.
John McCain, we do NOT need a FIGHTER
For if you approach this race as a fighter, as you now have claimed you will do, it REALLY means you are fighting against the American people, not for them.
Doctor Who, a REAL maverick and the quintessential underdog chooses to solve problems first through intelligence and wit, not fighting. Doctor Who (a man who is actually OLDER than John McCain is), has been involved in wars - and has learned that fighting should be the LAST choice, not a FIRST one.
That is why, on November 4, -I- we AMERICANS will support Barack Obama, and elect THAT ONE the next President of the United States.
