[Side Note: Muzikal203 also has a diary about this video with dozens of comments and more videos of Obama tax ads here. S/he was kind enough to let me leave this up, so please go there!]
Much of the reason I think we will win is not so much because of our side's policies per se, but because our candidate's ability to talk to regular Joes (and Jills) about his ideas and plans for America.
I saw this last Friday in downtown Columbus, where the audience of thousands listened raptly for over a half-hour to Barack describe what were, frankly, pretty wonky policy ideas for the economy. I kept being reminded of that moment in James Stewart's filibuster scene in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington when Clarissa is despairing because of the "terrible things" happening in his home state, but Diz counters with: "Anything can happen -- they're listening to him now."
For another example, join me below the fold.
Here it is:
I love it. This guy is clearly a rightie, but Obama engages with him by listening respectfully and speaking with confidence. Obama even describes the justification for progressive taxation in a way (several ways, actually) that I've never thought of before.
I also like how he ends with the statement that, even if this guy doesn't vote for him, he's gonna work hard for him.
I loved the comment at the end about the question being "pretty good practice" for the debate!
