Hello, everyone! I have been unable to diary for a while due to work, but I thought I would share my latest adventure in bigot land here in southeast Texas. I am going to have so much fun next week, and I thought you all would enjoy my plans for stirring up the pot here in McCain country.
As you know, I am an operator at a nuclear power plant in southeast Texas. We are located in Ron Paul’s district and just about everyone in this area is a McCain supporter. The demographic of the people who work here is primarily older white men who live in rural areas. I live an hour away in a very progressive area of Houston. I have not tried to hide the fact that I am an Obama supporter and I have found that there are actually four of us here on this site. We have about 1500 employees. I get all of the smear e-mails on a regular basis, with these clueless rednecks trying to get one over on me, or just trying to get my blood boiling.
Currently, we are in a refueling outage that is scheduled for 22 days. During these outages, we work 6 on- 1 off, 12 hour days. The company tries to put a fun spin on things by giving the outage a theme. The theme for this outage is Super Heroes, as in we are super heroes performing our refueling and maintenance duties flawlessly against the evil forces of complacency and carelessness.
One of the things that we are allowed to do to support this theme is to wear super hero themed t-shirts on Thursday, instead of being required to wear our normal organizational clothing. People wear various comic book shirts and it is a distraction from the numbing monotony of working six days or six nights a week for 12 hours a day. I got an idea and I did some searching, and here is the shirt I am going to wear next Thursday.
I’m sure I will get a ton of comments and some dirty looks, but I will be laughing all day long. You can find this shirt at www.stylinonline.com. I will post another diary to tell you about all the reactions I get. Have a great week!!
