Early voting is huge in this election. Along with estimates from some sources that early voting may contribute a full third of votes cast comes reports of long lines with waits of three to five hours.
In New Mexico, you can vote at any polling station in your county. Campus stations and ones in urban areas are going to be the worst, generally speaking, because that's where the majority of voters are.
If you have limited time, get on the internet and see if there are rural areas where you can cast your vote. Lines will often be shorter, and you might get the bonus of a nice country drive, or the chance to celebrate your vote with a visit to a local restaurant.
Voting lines are problematic. A major Republican strategy, as we all know, is reducing turnout. The complimentary Democratic strategy is our GOTV efforts. With party representation and independent sentiment in our favor, GOTV is the game-winner.
Long lines are a GOTV killer. The polling stations are the last line of defense for vote suppression (well, unless you consider other effects like unreliable voting machines or counts).
Make sure people know that there are more options than the local stations. A half hour drive to a rural polling station should beat a multi-hour line in both total time and in quality of time spent. For an even better time, carpool down with friends or family.
If your state permits you to select your early voting location, please post the URL to the list of stations here.
