I've been going through a long series of interviews for a job, a server's position at a nice restaurant. I first was interviewed for the position a couple of months ago, and they are getting closer to naming the person they'd like to hire.
Two weeks ago, they asked me what I felt the job of a server/waiter was. I told them the following;
As a server, it was my job to go into the kitchen every day, and make updates to the menu and how they cook the food.
As a server, it's my job to go into the manager's office every night and go over the day's receipts and write checks to the various vendors who supply the store.
As a server, it's my job to tell each guest that the food they ate is wonderful. If they got a bad piece of pasta, it's because they're whiners and they should just go somewhere else to eat.
As a server, it's my job to change the pricing on the menu. Spaghetti and meatballs will now be the same price as a 14-oz New York strip steak. Anybody who thinks the nicer food should cost more is a socialist and wants to wage food warfare on everyone else.
As a server, it's my job to use company profits to make my appearance nicer. Also, my kids will eat for free and the company will pay for it.
And as a server, it's my job to determine who the "real food-eaters" are in this town, and only serve those people our food.
Today , I was told that I couldn't have the job I've been applying for. Clearly investigations must be launched immediately to determine what the motives are behind this outrageous decision.
