More to the point, in regards to Sarah Palin's $150,000 wardrobe from elitist designers and the like, I keep thinking about Pat Nixon's Republican cloth coat, from non other than that pillar of right wing morality Richard Milhous Nixon, in the infamous "Checkers" speech. Watch it and weep.
BTW, at the time of this speech, he was the VP candidate for Eisenhower, offering his resignation (signs of things to come?) to the RNC for being a scandalous dipshit and a drag on the ticket.
I wonder about the McPalin campaign, and then I think about another speech, this time by Obama, when he says (paraphrasing) "...it's not that John McCain doesn't care, he just doesn't know..."
But on this point, I can't say I agree with Obama. There is LOTS OF EVIDENCE that McCain doesn't know AND he doesn't care, and depending on the situation, its some combination of both, either, or some other inane things we can even imagine because we, unlike McCain, are for the most part, rational and sane.
Even the sleazeball Nixon understood that you at least act the part. Whether it be morals or political savvy, McCain and Palin and their handlers don't even live up to the high standard that Tricky Dicky set. JFCOAS!
Now, this question of whether they don't know, or whether they don't care is important. Actually I'm not sure why its important, something about understanding your enemy, or seeing it from another person's point of view. But I digress...
I wonder what the mastermind of the campaign says about the 150K wardrobe. I've assembled my top 4 answers for both the "Don't Know" and the "Don't Care" scenarios.
Is it that they just don't know:
- "Everyone spends that much on clothes, don't they? I mean, what is the average income out there in West Virginia, 125K or so, right?"
- "The peons will love all those fancy designers. It's aspirational. It shows she's a success."
- "Hillary voters are sophisticated women. Get Sarah up in some New York designer clothes and she'll peel off some votes."
- " I told her she could spend $25,000 and she spent $150,000. When I questioned her on it she said she was the VPILF and threatened to can me."
or is it that they just don't care
- "I don't care how much she spent, she's hot."
- "Oh everyone's bitching about something. People will just see this as the media picking on her again."
- "Let them latch on to the 150K so they stop talking about the 700B."
- "Let them eat cake."
Well it's a sad day when we can look to Nixon for guidance on how to do things, but I hope this comparison gets picked up by others than just myself. Talking about Nixon and the current Republican campaign in the same sentences together HAS to be a net vote gain for us.
