Hillary is hedging her bets with new political maneuvers, according to Bill Schneider in his Situation Room report today. If Obama loses, her recently resurrected Hillpac will be converted seamlessly into her 2012 presidential campaign. If he wins, she has positioned herself to leverage her enhanced political clout to be the front woman for his agenda in the Senate. She would also target the role of majority leader.
Should Hillary be revving up her post presidential campaign agenda already? Why can't we focus all our attention on getting Obama elected, with days to go until November 4th? Is this a kind of self-defeating prophecy? I don't think Democrats should even be appearing to contemplate an Obama loss.
Democrats also have perfectly capable leadership in the House and Senate, and Obama can push his own agenda. I'm sure Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were contemplating long careers in their current positions. Don't they have what it takes to help push Obama's agenda? Yes, we will need Hillary's input, but we don't need her breathing down the backs of the Democratic leadership. At the right time, she will find an effective, prominent role. A little patience and reticence would not hurt her or derail her ambitious plans.
