First John McCain put literal air quotes around "women's health" in one of the final segments of the last debate. And now in an interview Sarah Palin has put figurative air quotes around the word "terrorist" as it applies to people who terrorize abortion clinics and the doctors and patients inside.
Let me just crack my knuckles here, do a quick stretch in my chair and break out some air quotes of my own.
I know John McCain is a "wonderful husband" to his "wife" Cindy McCain and all, and he would never say anything to her that would "offend." Certainly this is a man who "understands" the issues that concern women.
I also understand that Palin herself, as a mother of five children, "cares deeply" about "real families." And that's "all" kinds of families that are headed up by a man and a woman.
This "team" of "Mavericks" will go to bat for "all kinds" of Americans. Every "real" American can count on their "leadership without worrying about the petty divisions of race, class or sexual identity.
So I can completely "endorse" the idea of a woman voting for this ticket. American female voters can feel "safe" that "President" McCain and "Vice President" Palin would have their "best interests" at "heart" at all times.
Because John McCain is "not" the kind of man who would pander to the political right just to win an election. On the contrary. Here we have a man "brave" enough to "stand up for" his "ideals."
And in these troubling economic times, John McCain "knows" the troubles that face our country. "Ordinary, average" people like "Joe" the "Plumber" -- those are the kinds of people John is interested in "fighting for."
You can count on him to "lead" by what he "knows" is "right." He's "not" the kind of "person" who would cynically exploit the out-of-the-mainstream notions of the far-right fringe simply because he's worried about where he stands in the polls.
And as for Palin herself, well, she's just an "authentic" straight-shooter who believes that women should be "protected" from those who would seek to offer them too many "choices" in life.
"Choice" is such an overused, liberal "buzzword" as it is. There's really no "choice" involved when it comes to pregnancy -- even those so-called "crisis" pregnancies involving "rape" or "incest."
So you can see why these two "principled" individuals are clearly the "right choice" for America. They're just so firmly within the "mainstream" of what kind of ideas Americans find acceptable.
Whoops -- woah! Too many air quotes at once!
