NOTE: This diary has sat unpublished for the last two months, and with the renewed interest in the APL its only fitting to publish it now. I'm not an expert in energy but hopefully this diary will be of interest to some. Enjoy.
Gov. Sarah Palin and her running mate John McCain both have a vested interest in the AK pipeline. Back in Jan.24, 2008 Governor Palin sang the praises of TransCanada's bid in the the building.
"Gov. Palin certainly showed leadership on the gas line. If Sen. McCain happens to be elected as president, that would put a strong representative in the administration in Washington that's in favor of an Alaska gas line," Tony Palmer, the TransCanada executive in charge of the pipeline said.
TransCanada proposal
In it, the company says it will seek federal loan guarantees to cover cost overruns and it wants the U.S. government to take on some or all of the initial risk if sufficient gas shippers fail to participate in the open season.
Here we go again. Privatize profits. Socialize losses.

Tom Irwin is re-instated as Commissioner of Natural Resources
“Tom has the experience, talent and know-how to manage Alaska’s resources and bring those resources, including Alaska’s gas reserves, to market,” said Governor Palin. “His strong private-sector background will be a major asset to the department. I am confident that Tom will provide an invaluable resource to the state’s ongoing efforts to develop our natural resources.”
