Forget everything anyone has said about Tom Brokaw in recent months. Tom Brokaw destroyed John McCain on Meet the Press. Brokaw channeled Tim Russert in pointing out all of McCain inconsistencies over the years and in recent months.
Sorry for the short diary. Here is the link to the video:

On every issue, taxes, "socialism," polls showing Obama up, Tom Brokaw twisted John McCain and left him babbling to find coherent rationale for his campaign and pronouncements against Obama.
McCain might have thought it would be a cake walk. But Brokaw brought his buzz saw.
I'm sorry for the short diary. Tom Brokaw has redeemed himself with what will historically be viewed as bringing the maverick and his lipsticked pitbull to slaughter. Until today, Brokaw simply served as babysitter to guests. Today he was a reporter. He was aggressive with a man he respects, finally realizing that the stakes are too high to give him a pass this close to election day.
On Sarah Palin, McCain is discounting reality. Returning to debunked talking points, McCain squirmed trying to find new thought about Palin. About the clothes, McCain said: "She lives a frugal life." WOW!
While McCain was floundering on MTP, Billy Kristol of the NYT, was on Fox blaming the staff for Palin's shopping spree. I guess they held a gun to her head to where the outfits, sit for makeup sessions and hair dos.
This was McCain's opportunity to counter probably the worst week of the cycle that featured endorsements by GOP governors, Colin Powell, newspapers and conservative writers. He blew it.
McCain stumbled at the beginning of most of the answers, relying on talking points to provide "substance" after rejecting Brokaw's premise of each question.
McCain couldn't justify his positions that countered his own words on video.
McCain is pissed. I'm sure that his campaign will write another letter to NBC News to complain.
This is a great day!
